TruePreview 1.2 released

Right on the heels of version 1.1, I am pleased to announce TruePreview 1.2. This version includes a bug fix, a German translation, and options to immediately mark messages a read when replying or forwarding.

TruePreview 1.1 released

I am pleased to (finally) announce the release of TruePreview 1.1.  Amidst craziness at work and a new baby girl in the house, it has taken me some time to get this completed and released, but hopefully it was worth the wait.

Highlights of version 1.1:

  • Add Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)/Mail 4.1 support
  • Add option to never mark as read
  • Add option to immediately mark as read when opened in a separate window
  • Add option to immediately mark as read when scrolled in the preview pane

This version will still work in 10.5 (Mail 3.6).

As many of you have seen, I have moved the TruePreview project off of the SourceForge infrastructure to my own servers to "eat my own dog food."  I'm still trying to get everything working just the way I want, but it's completely functional with a few quirks.  If you haven't already, check out http://christianserving.org/project/truepreview.

Finally, if you find this plugin useful, please consider giving a donation to help offset my costs and time and to encourage me to continue maintenance and development.  Before I took the time to write this myself, I often said that I would have paid for this functionality.  I love open source, though, so I have made this available to everyone for free.  Just remember that every moment I spend working on this takes me away from something that may be more worthwhile personally.  Smile

Enjoy!

Bringing TruePreview in-house

Based on feedback from some of you — combined with some of my own insatiable desire for a challenge — I decided that since I am always touting and telling others to use Drupal, I should "eat my own dog food" and move the TruePreview project off of SourceForge.  I spent some time investigating Drupal's various project and issue-tracking modules but couldn't find exactly what I was hoping to find. So, I instead used the power of Drupal's Content Creation Kit and Views modules (along with the help of several others) to create a custom project and issue system, loosely based on the Project module, Trac, and other such pieces of software.

Moving the project here has pluses and minuses. I lose SF's popularity, infrastructure, and ubiquity, but I gain complete control over the system, I get to customize things exactly the way I want, and I get to learn some new things. If this was a gigantic project with thousands of followers and contributors, the story would probably be different, but I think this will serve us well.  I will also be able to use the same site and configuration for some other project ideas I have in the back of my head. Plus, it was fun!

So, check out the TruePreview project page, view the ticket queue, and submit your feature requests and bug reports!
